Bachelor of Economy

The Bachelor of Economics (BE) offered by the Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM is the pioneer among economics programs in Malaysia that has produced many well-known and prominent economists in the country. This programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills in the field of economics that allows graduates to apply economics-related knowledge in organisational planning, policy development, research and decision making in organisations. Focus areas include international and industrial economics, monetary and fiscal economics, econometrics, economic development and Islamic economics. PROGRAMME SUMMARY

The research-based program offered in diverse areas in Science and Technology gives students the opportunity to experience the research process. Our postgraduates are nurtured to build their research reputation for excellence in scientific discovery. Students will be part of a strong research community that contributes to society or  tackling global challenges. There are many opportunities for the research to be published. Students are expected to publish at least two articles in ISI indexed journals. Some of the research in Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) strives to make distinctive contribution to science by taking multidisciplinary approaches and having industrial or institutional collaborations. FST students are also encouraged to access and engage with research networks both within Malaysia and internationally. The Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Mobility Program or international grants may be able to support with travel grants and/or research attachments. Participation in conferences is encouraged and may be supported by the supervisor’s research fund or other travel grants.

Programme Offered

Master - Research Mode

   1.       Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with minimum CGPA 2.75 or equivalent, from any      institutions of higher learning recognized by the UKM Senate; or

   2.       Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with minimum CGPA of 2.50 – 2.74 or                         equivalent, subject to rigorous internal assessment; or

   3.       Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with CGPA 2:00 -2.49, with a minimum of 5 years           working experience or research project in relevant field. Proof of the working                experience of a foreign candidate should be acknowledged by the embassy of the            respective country.

   4.       Must meet the English Language competency requirements by obtaining 

         The minimum score or band results which is:

         TOEFL iBT  (46or  IELTS (5.5)  or  CEFR (B2)

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

 

   1.First semester: Attend and complete Pre-requisite course first semester  

                                     (STPD6024 Research Methodology)

   2.Thesis: 

     –  Present and pass research proposal the full Thesis through oral examination

   3.Publish:

     –  Candidates must publish at least one (1) paper in a WOS/ Scopus/ERA/ indexed            journal in a related and refereed field.

     –  One proceeding paper with the Supervisory Committee recognized by the Graduate           Studies Committee.

   4.Malay Language Requirement:

     –     LMCM1083 Communicative Malay Language as a requirement for graduation

Doctor of Philosophy - Research Mode

1.     Master’s Degree from a University or any institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate

2.     Must meet the English Language competency requirements by obtaining the minimum score or band results which is :

TOEFL iBT  (46)  or  IELTS (5.5)  or  CEFR (B2)

3.       Meet other requirements set by the program (if applicable)

4.       Meet the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

 

1. Students must schedule meetings with supervisors or supervisory committees of not less than 40 hours of meetings per semester for full-time students and 20 hours of meetings per semester for part- time students.

     2.  Attend and complete Pre-requisite course (STPD8014 Research Method).

     3.  Pass the oral examination and submit a thesis at the end of the study.

     4.  Publish at least two (2) articles in WoS indexed journal to fulfil graduation requirement

     5.  International students shall pass Bahasa Melayu course:

           LMCM1083 Malay Language for International Student

                                                      OR
