Master - Research Mode

  1. CGPA 2.75 and above – A Bachelor’s degree with Honors from UKM / equivalent;

  2. CGPA 2.50 – 2.74 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; 

CGPA 2.00 – 2.49 with a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum score of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent for any examination that has been aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) as approved by the Senate

Letter of confirmation of academic qualification obtained using English as the medium of instruction issued by the University

International students originating from countries that use English as the official language (refer to The International Academic Grade Guide 2nd Edition).

Prospective students also have the option to take the HEET exam Higher Education English Test (HEET) as a language competency test Main English aligned to The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to meet the entry requirements to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

REQUIREMENTS FOR VIVA VOCE

  1. Master of Science candidates need to fulfil the publication requirement as determined by the faculty before submission thesis.

  2. The course on Research Methodology (KKKF6003) is compulsory for Master of Science candidates undertaking thesis/ research.

  3. International students must attend and pass the Bahasa Melayu course as determined by the university.

Doctor of Philosophy - Research Mode

  1. Master’s degree from a university or any institution of higher learning recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and/or have accreditation recognized by a foreign accreditation body, or an institution with accreditation as prescribed by a program.

  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree or other qualifications with experience recognized by the Senate, or

  3. A student currently pursuing full time master’s program under sub regulation 6 (a) at the university and recommended by the faculty’s / institute’s Graduate Studies Committee for status conversion to a doctoral program with approval from the Dean / Director, or

  4. Bachelor’s degree with distinction from the university or any institution of higher learning subject to what is prescribed by the faculty / institute and approval by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and / or with accreditation recognized by a foreign Accreditation Board.

  5. Any other qualification recognized by the Senate obtained through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), or

  6. Fulfils other requirements prescribed by the program (if applicable), and

  7. Fulfils requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

    GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

    1. Doctor of Philosophy candidates need to fulfil the publication requirement as determined by the Faculty before thesis submission.

    2. The course on KKKF6013: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY is compulsory for Doctor of Philosophy candidates undertaking thesis/research.

Compulsory for International Candidates: Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi Antarabangsa; atau Bahasa Melayu untuk Pelajar Nusantara

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

  1. An international candidate is required to fulfil the English language proficiency requirements as follows:

a. obtained TOEFL (550), IELTS (6), or MUET (4) results which fulfil the score, or minimum band requirements prescribed by the program, or
b. for certain programs, a candidate is required to sit for an English Proficiency Test (EPT) and if he/she fails to achieve the level specified by the program, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM) in a maximum period of two (2) semesters before he/she is allowed to register for the study program. The candidate shall register as a non-graduating student.

  1. The faculty/ institute may grant exemption to the requirements specified in sub regulation (1) for the international candidate who:

a. will be writing his/her thesis / dissertation in Malay language;
b. has the academic qualifications obtained from any local universities recognized by the Senate, or
c. is originally from a country where English is the official language, or he/she has the academic qualifications obtained from any higher learning institutions which uses English as the medium of instruction.

        3. The candidate may be exempted from the requirements stated in sub regulation (2), but the candidate shall sit for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and if he/she fails to obtain the level specified by the program, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM).
