The Bachelor of Economics (BE) offered by the Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM is the pioneer among economics programs in Malaysia that has produced many well-known and prominent economists in the country. This programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills in the field of economics that allows graduates to apply economics-related knowledge in organisational planning, policy development, research and decision making in organisations. PROGRAMME SUMMARY
This program utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in research, writing and publication activities. The program is expected to fulfill holistic human resource needs, having knowledge and skills in specialized field and research which consequently able to drive the country toward developed nation. Four (4) main research areas offered are economics, accounting, management, and entrepreneurship. These four areas are further refined into several specialization areas to highlight UKM’s expert areas in research in line with the UKM Research University status.
1. A Bachelor’s degree from UKM or other institutions of higher learning
recognized by the UKM Senate.
2. Other qualifications equivalent to a degree or having other qualifications
with experience recognized by the Senate.
3. Meet other requirements determined by the Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM from time to time.
4. Meet the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)
5. Applicant must obtain at least a TOEFL (550) or IELTS (6) or equivalent.
6. The program prepares students to conduct academic research that is both academically sound and industry relevant.
There are (5) main thrust areas offered, namely

a. Candidates must pass the research proposal presentation.
b. Candidates must pass the thesis and oral examination.
c. Candidates must publish at least one (1) paper in a WOS/Scopus/ ERA/ indexed journal in a related and refereed field, and one (1) proceeding paper with the Supervisory Committee recognized by the Graduate Studies Committee.
2. Bahasa Melayu Course (Malay Language)
Candidates must enroll and pass Bahasa Melayu course
(Malay Language) as a requirement for graduation as required by UKM.

1. Thesis
a. The minimum and maximum number of words count for the Doctor of Philosophy thesis between 80,000 – 100,000 words NOT INCLUDING footnotes, quotations, attachments, formulas, tables, diagrams and so on.
b. Candidates must pass the research proposal presentation.
c. Candidates must pass the thesis and oral examination.
2. Publish at least two (2) papers in Woos/ Scopus/ Era/ renowned indexed journals in fields related to Doctor of Philosophy. Publications that are considered a condition for conferring a degree must meet the following criteria:
a. The publication is relevant to the student’s field of research; and
b. The publication must be completed within the period of study of the student; and
c. Student publications shall be in collaboration with the University supervisor.
d. Joint publications by several students at the University must be confirmed by the Dean as being related to the students’ fields of research.
3. Bahasa Melayu Course (Malay Language)
Candidates must enroll and pass Bahasa Melayu course (MalayLanguage) as a requirement for graduation required by UKM.
